Northampton historian in TV documentary

A historian from the University of Northampton is appearing in a TV documentary series. Matthew McCormack will feature in two episodes of The Royals: A History of Scandals on More4, starting a 9pm on Monday 30 January 2023.

The series is presented by the historian Suzannah Lipscomb and focuses on scandalous episodes from the history of the British monarchy. The monarchy in the present day has been wracked by scandal, but the series shows that this is nothing new!

Matthew contributes to segments on scandals from the early nineteenth century. In the first episode on lavish spending, Matthew discusses the Duke of York affair, where the head of the army’s mistress was accused of selling military commissions. And in the third episode, he explores an incident that on the face of it appeared to be suicide and attempted murder, but where many critics alleged that it was more than met the eye.
